PIL Channel
A Guix channel hosting software licensed under the Prism Information License (PIL).
What is the PIL?
The Prism Information License is a free software license that ensures:
- You are free to use, modify, and distribute the software
- Complete source code must always be provided
- Any derivative work must carry the same license
- The original creator must be credited in the source or any derivative's source, at minimum in a README or equivalent documentation file
- Clear build and usage instructions must always be provided if the software works with external backends or frontends, documentation for those must be included too
The PIL was created to close a gap in existing copyleft licenses: while licenses like the GPL require source code to be provided, they do not require that the source actually be buildable or understandable. The PIL explicitly requires documentation sufficient to build and operate the software, making "technically compliant but practically useless" source dumps a violation.
