THIS IS TO BE TOLD ONCE SIX DEMENSES HAVE BEEN VISITED
The scene opens early one morning with a phone call. (player) answers, and it is Nash. He cheerily asks for your group to come see King Akarui at your earliest convenience, as there is an urgent matter he wishes to speak with you about.
-----
Upon arriving, you see a perky Nash flagging you down to his desk. "There's our new town heroes! King Akarui is waiting for you, I just need to buzz you in."
Right before he hits the button, you see King Akarui's doors burst open, an angry stout Doberman marching out, followed by a Puma man in Thunder Force attire.
You recognize Third Commander Harken, but the other one...
(IF THEY VISITED THE WEAPONS STORE)
...is Jerras, owner of the Weapons store.
Harken grabs the doberman (Jerras)'s shoulder, stopping him. "Jerras, stop. I understand you are upset."
He turns to Harken, growling lowly. "Upset?! That son of a bitch tried to lowball me on that deal and you know it..!"
Harken removes his sunglasses, revealing his deep brown soulful cat eyes. "Jerras, you have to understand, he is not made of coin, and the Thunder Force's budget is tight. Not to mention the morality issue--"
Jerras groans in annoyance, rolling his eyes. "Dont give me that crap Harken, the man wears gold draperies like some... what do they call them out there, Arabian princess?"
He puts his hands around his muzzle and yells muffledly in frustration, then takes a deep breath, sighing a bit. "I refuse to be taken advantage of. This could have been the deal of a lifetime for me."
Harken places a hand on his shoulder. "It still CAN be. The coin is one thing, but the publicity of your name attached to the Thunder Force will be great marketing. EVERYONE will know your name."
He just sighs out of frustration. "Yeah... I guess... thanks... either way, I owe you one for talking him up to where it landed."
Harken extends his hand toward Jerras with a stern look in his eye. "Friends don't hold debts over each other, you know that. But... you spot me for lunch and we will call it even."
Jerras accepts the handshake with a soft smile, then notices your group.
-----
- *IF THEY DID NOT MEET YET*
"Hey wait a sec, I recognize you... aren't you the latest batch of newbies turned heroes?"
*IF THEY CONFIRM*
"Well this day just became better. Name's Jerras, I own the weapons store in the Business District. If you're ever looking for something bigger and better, look me up." He then slips you a business card with black lettering that mirrors everything he just told you, before heading out the door and looking significantly happier.
- *IF THEY MET*
"Well look who it is, my favorite customers. You hear to see King birdface too, huh?"
*IF THEY CONFIRM*
"Well he ain't in a charitable mood, so good luck to ya. Yer gonna need it." He chuckles a bit and heads out the door, looking significantly happier.
-----
Harken steps toward your group. "I understand you have a meeting with the King? I'll be attending with you. And I apologize for his... outburst."
*ASK ABOUT JERRAS*
"He came to broker a deal to outfit the Thunder Force with weapons. King Akarui lowballed him when he realized Jerras resells weapons pawned off to him from the Marauders and other questionable sources. The situation was... what did that book call it... An Unfortunate Series of Events, morality wise."
*THAT IS STUPID*
"THAT... is what Jerras said. But there are many whom believe 'a weapon used in cold blood is stained eternally.' We worked out an agreement that paid significantly more than street value on all the weapons, but Jerras is... prideful when it comes to coin."
"In any case, we have a meeting to attend. Shall we?"
Harken escorts you to the meeting, holding open the door for all of you, then following you in and locking it behind himself.
Akarui is at his desk signing paperwork, but when he sees your group, he immediately puts the pen down. "Welcome back, heroes! And thank you for coming to see me so promptly."
*WHAT IS THIS ABOUT*
He holds up two digits. "Well this is a dual purpose meeting. Firstly, I wanted to see how you were all faring so far. Normally after the welcoming in, I would just leave you to your own devices, but unlike the others that came the last several times, you've been more... 'active' in public, making a name for yourself."
(I believe that name is... Kings of Kings?)
*AFTER THEIR RETORT*
"Well keep up the good work, I appreciate you dealing with those Marauders so efficiently. And cleanly, according to Harken here. The expense to repairing all their property damage was REALLY starting to hurt our city's budget, but now our finances are stabilizing again."
*WHY NOT JUST MAKE MORE*
"And shoot the value of our currency in the foot? Certainly not. We craft a set number of these coins every month, mostly to replace damaged ones, and partly to accommodate our increasing population, nothing more. To produce more just for OUR needs would do nothing but harm the long term value."
"Our second topic is a bit more pressing... I'd dare call it urgent. We think there may be a mole in the Thunder Force."
*AFTER THEY COMMENT*
Harken steps up. "We've had several strange occurrences within our organization since long before you arrived. Calls sending us to the wrong locations, incorrect records on reports, evidence disappearing from our inventory. It's happening too consistently to be a coincidence, but we cannot identify the perpetrator."
*DOES HE WANT THEM TO SEEK OUT THE MOLE*
"Personally I would be thrilled to see the bad element rooted out, but I cannot authorize such a mission. Nor Harken. You CAN keep an eye out for suspicious behavior if you are so inclined, but I'm not going to ask you. Quite the contrary actually, this is a direct and clear warning."
-----
- IF THEY APPLIED
"I understand you have recently applied to join the Thunder Force. I have your application paperwork on hand, and I'm willing to approve it right now. But I need to know that, even with the knowledge of a corrupt agent somewhere in this, you are still interested in making a difference. You wouldn't be the first vigilantes turned Thunder Force afterall." He and Harken mirror an amused glance.
- *IF THEY HAVENT APPLIED YET*
"The Thunder Force has open tryouts coming up soon, and it would be a disservice of me to not forewarn you of this, provided any of you were interested in applying. You wouldn't be the first vigilantes turned Thunder Force afterall." He and Harken mirror an amused glance.
*WHAT DO THEY MEAN*
Harken slips his sunglasses on. "Akarui and I were part of a four-man team that immigrated here a decade ago. Once we understood the circumstances of the island, we all agreed to make a difference, whether that was to be King or Thunder Force."
-----
*IF THEY WANT TO JOIN STILL*
"I admire your dedication. (Once you officially apply,) I will get your paperwork filed as soon as possible and we will likely see you on the field within the week."
*IF THEY DONT WANT TO JOIN*
"I completely understand. (I will have the paperwork removed from the active personnel file.) Despite this, I hope it will not dissuade you from doing what you've been doing up until now. You don't necessarily NEED to be Thunder Force to fight for what is right, afterall."
-----
*EITHER WAY*
"It should also be noted that this information is strictly confidential. Until now, the only ones who knew about the potential mole were myself and Harken. And since you've done so much for the town, we felt you'd earned a little trust."
"Thank you for your time, heroes. Harken will see you out." Harken will nod and open the door for you, leading you out the front door of the building.
(NOTICE ROLL) Nash is no longer at his desk, a small sign sitting on it saying "back in an hour" with a drawn picture of a cheeseburger attached.
Once outside, Harken will turn to your group. "I will see you around, I'm sure."
(Harken will slide his sunglasses back on,)
the silver parts of his uniform will start to glow, and he will disappear from view, leaving only a scorchmark on the ground and a lingering stench of ozone.
(NOTICE ROLL)
You spot Jerras in the distance, leaning on a nearby shady tree, and he is handing a bag of coin to someone in a dark trench coat. That person then hands him a heavy looking duffel bag, before stepping out of view. Jerras then walks away as nonchalantly as possible. |
